Read More...Penolva meaning “lookout on the headland” was built in the early 1960’s by Dick Wilkins, a personal friend of the Queen Mother and a great sportsman as well as a respected personality in the City of London. Yachting was one of his great hobbies and it is documented that the Queen Mother and other members of the Royal family often visited Wilkins and stayed at Penolva coming ashore from H.M.Y. Brittania. Newly renovated and decorated with beautiful Modern British art the house and its large grounds and terraces are suffused with sparkling light whilst offering complete privacy and seclusion.
The sumptuous sleeping accommodation for up to 8 guests offers 4 double bedrooms with ensuite bathrooms and breathtaking sea views.
The master bedroom is spacious and light and has magnificent views which can be enjoyed from the window from three different aspects, panoramas of Tavern beach and the village, the Carrick Headlands and St Anthony’s lighthouse. The ensuite bathroom has a large walk in shower.
Two of the bedrooms have beautiful views of St Mawes Bay and can be twin bedded or double beds with ensuite bathrooms and glorious free standing baths.
The fourth bedroom has a large bay window with views across St Mawes bay and a second window offering views across to ST Anthony’s lighthouse.
The ensuite bathroom has a bath with hand shower and spectacular picture panels of St Mawes Castle and Cornish gardens.
A spiral staircase leads from the front door and the upper floor bedroom areas down to the living rooms.
The living room is simply perfect for entertaining family and friends. The dining room has seating for up to 10 guests and everyone dining can enjoy the sea views from it.
There is an impressive grand piano located in the room for those talented pianists who may wish to entertain their guests.
The dining room has French doors out onto the main terrace and double doors leads through to the impressive living room.
The living room opens up to the TV and play room. With a glazed ceiling this is a bright room and is ideal for adults and children to just relax. It provides a large screen with Sky TV , board games, books and games consoles whatever your entertainment needs it’s here! There is also a writing desk for those wishing to write be it for business or pleasure.
The impressively fitted kitchen has a range of high specification equipment including an Aga and a dining table where everyone can enjoy informal dining. The kitchen has expansive views of the sea and headland through a beautiful bay window.
A cloakroom, laundry room and boot room lead out onto the terraced gardens and is an ideal place for those keen on water sports to hang wet suits and costumes
Open the doors to a secret terraced garden and wonderful tranquil oasis of botanical plants.The gardens give a commanding 180 uninterrupted degree view of St Mawes and St Anthony’s headland.
From the dining room, you step out onto an expansive terrace running right across the property. It is the ideal place for your party to enjoy a barbecue and relax, whilst soaking in the amazing scenery
All levels of the garden are planted with an impressive array of tropical and local plants giving interest throughout the seasons. From the main terrace, there are stone steps down to further lower terraces – one has a secluded curved seating area. The lowest terrace has gated sea access. Gates secure each part of the garden so you can use as much, or as little, as you need.
